‘Gülizar’, ‘Diamanti’ and ‘No dogs allowed’, the big winners of the Maresme Film Festival
The Turkish film Gülizar, the Italian Diamanti, and the German No dogs allowed were the standout winners of the tenth edition of the Maresme Film Festival, held in Calella, with the awards announced this Saturday.
Gülizar, directed by Belkis Bayrak, won three awards in the Low Budget section, which features films made with less than half a million euros. Specifically, it was recognized for its screenplay—also written by Bayrak—for Bayrak’s work as director, and as Best Film. In this section, actress Beatriz Arjona was also awarded for Solos en la noche, and Ibrahima Kone received recognition for his leading role in Te protegerán mis alas.
Meanwhile, Diamanti, by Ferzan Öxpetek, won Best Film in the Creative Rosebud section, which has no budget limit. Another standout in this category was No dogs allowed, which received awards for Stephan Kämpf’s screenplay and Carlo Krammling’s performance.
Also notable in this category were awards for Olga Alamán, for La invasió dels bàrbars, and Avi Federgreen, director of Home Free.
Albert Guinart, co-director of the Maresme Film Festival, stated: “This year we received around 350 films from all over the world, covering a wide range of themes. The only thing they have in common is the budget. Our quality standards are very high. In fact, there were many cases of double and triple ties. That’s because the films are really good.”
The Maresme Film Festival awards ceremony took place this Saturday at Sala Mozart in Calella, during a gala themed around Harry Potter. The festival, which began on October 25, screened more than twenty international films in Calella, Sant Pol de Mar, and Arenys de Mar.
